Everyday I’m Shufflin

Dum Dum Dee Dum Dum…

They say, once bitten twice shy. Never really knew what it meant until recently. I failed my mid-term exams for my Financial Accounting. I swear I pissed my pants when the thought of having to re-sit for the paper the next semester. It wasn’t so much of how much trouble I’d have to go through, or how I’d have to answer to my parents. It was more of how I’d blame myself for not doing what I could’ve. I’d cry myself to sleep knowing all these would’ve been easily avoidable if only I studied.

Luckily, my lenient college gave us a chance to make good. Problem solved.

IMG 20110817 00023 Everyday Im Shufflin So I get to throw this pile of paper into the recycle bin.

It’s always when I’m back in Kuching where the real fun starts.

For the record, I’ve been caked every year, no less, since I was 16. That’s 3 years in a row. This year, I’d be expecting something similar from the mastermind, Aelred.

Thankfully, no.

58989 468411716179 629576179 6379185 7393195 n Everyday Im ShufflinThis was last years.

I knew something was up, but didn’t know what it was. Samantha, Vivian, Kathleen, Aelred and I went for a supposedly day-trip to Damai. The fishiness of the whole thing is not subtle. It wasn’t going to be so simple. But, even with my very wary senses, it bugged the hell out of me not knowing what they were hiding.

IMG 1673 Everyday Im ShufflinWe went dipping in the sea waters during noon time. Aelred, supposedly went back up shore to take some towels took 45 mins to do the check-in procedures. He made up a really convincing story for his long absence, saying that he had a quarrel with the management about where he parked the car and how it was only for VIPs and they wanted to charge him a one-nights-stay price.

After we came up, we headed over to the “public washroom”, which was located somewhere around the chalets.

IMG 1610 Everyday Im Shufflin“How nice would it be if we could stay in one of these, right KC?”, uttered Aelred.

I went on with a very sarcastic reply about how packed it would be for this peak season and the price and all.

*Samantha swiping a hotel card over one of the doors*

IMG 1624 Everyday Im ShufflinWooaaaa….

Very smooth, Sam, Kath, Vi, and Red. Very smooth.

So there’s that. We spent the night eating seafood, strolling along the beaches.. And some drinking.

Before Sam left to UK, we went for some seafood-hunting. *drooling over crabs and prawns*

Drinking game after that. Half bottle of Panadol-tasting Raspberry Vodka gone.

IMG 20110904 00019 Everyday Im ShufflinBut only I got wasted.

IMG 20110902 00002 Everyday Im ShufflinThen, there’s the Durians. The King of Fruits. I had lots of durians this time back. In fact, more than my 19 years of durians ate combined. Granted, I’ve never eaten durian more than 10 times before this.

Jolyn, our Sabahan friend came over to Kuching to attend her sister’s wedding. Went out the whole day. My first ever voluntary chauffeuring.*adds on to my resume*

Procrastination has really gotten into me. It’s stopping me from being productive again.

It’s close to 11.30PM now. I have to get my meatless ass up tomorrow by 8AM to go all the way to PWTC to work. My parents told me not to work anymore after my surgery. I’m hoping they dont read my blog anymore. *teehee*

Lets just fill this post with some pictures and a bit of text.

Where to start…

Penang

I went to Penang mid June. EJ, WK, Aaron and I wandered around the island using the very awesome RapidPenang public bus service. It’s actually my first trip to Penang as a tourist. Believe it or not, I’ve been going to Penang since I was a baby, but have never step foot on ANY of the famous tourism spot such as Penang Hill for example. How pathetic. When you think of Penang, you think of one thing and one thing only. Food. But I’m not going to show you any pictures of food. I’ll kena gastritis in no time just looking at them pictures.

Penang Hill. So cooling and serene. The view of Penang was amazing.

Each of us got this drawing (except for Aaron) by an artist along Gurney Drive. He asked me what I liked to do. I said play cards. He had a headache for a moment. But as he was halfway through drawing, this by-stander described me in the drawing as “macam orang gila”.

myHarapan Startup Camp

This was the camp I was referring to earlier on in this post. I cant tell you how grateful I am to Hong Khai for introducing me to this camp. It was an Entrepreneurship Camp. Speakers were Celcom’s co-founder and Sime Darby’s international marketing director. They were both very experienced people that gave us some insights on the Dos and the Don’ts of starting up a business.

The facilities there were top-notch. As Jonathan put it, “It’s a 5 star camp”

I think why I liked this camp so much was how participative and proactive the attendees were. I got to meet so many like-minded people.

I’ve also watched Harry Potter’s latest and last movie. Watching it in 3D MAXX meant having to pass through 20 pair of legs to get to your seat in the middle.

The Appendicitis Hit

My mom use to warn me not to “jump up and down” after eating. She used to scare me about how pain appendicitis is. Throughout the years, I’ve heard stories of who & who got their appendix removed, how they “couldn’t even walk” when appendicitis struck them. I never really bothered. I continued doing what I do best, “jump up and down” after eating. As a matter of fact, I “jump up and down” all the time.

8th of June 2011, my lucky day came.

11AM - Woke up. Peed. Realized I had gastric. Must be the empty stomach. Screw that. Went back to sleep.

1PM – Woke up. This time for real. My gastric hurt pretty darn bad. I’m going to use a scale of 1-10 to tell you how much it hurt throughout the whole story. It was a 6/10 pain. Aaron and I went down to eat. That should solve the problem.

Nom.nom.nom…As I chew on my food, I could still feel my tummy aching. Never mind. Eat more. Nom.nom.nom…

3PM – Damn this fucking gastric is going nowhere huh? I BBM-ed Daniel, the soon-to-be doctor, for some tips on fixing this gastric. He suggested I drink milk. It’s said to act as antacid to bring down the acid level in my tummy. I went down, pampered myself with a box of cold milk, and came back up to rest.

4.30PM – I think I need to get that dreaded shot up my ass. Damn my RM90 will say goodbye. Never mind. I can claim from my parents later. icon biggrin The Appendicitis Hit

Off I went to see Dr. Khor, the clinic nearby. I was all prepared for a needle to be stuck up my ass and then life goes on.

The thunder was roaring and a slight drizzle as I walked towards the clinic. Damn it was even more epic than The Adjustment Bureau.

So, here’s where to story started getting interesting. Dr Khor applied pressure on various parts of my tummy. Standard procedure, or so I thought.

“I think you’ve got appendicitis.”

“…”

I was a little taken aback because the pain was always in the central of my abdomen. He explained that this is the early stage of appendicitis. It will slowly progress to the right of my tummy.

He went on to write a referral letter. I needed to be admitted to a hospital. It sounded kinda cool, in a way. The pain was still at 6/10. I didn’t have a medical card. So, I was referred to GHKL.

IMG 20110607 00058 The Appendicitis HitDr. Khor’s writing. He only charged me Rm15 for this! OMG the letter that saved my life.

5.30PM – Off I went. I took a taxi by the roadside and headed to GHKL. When I told this chinese taxi driver I needed to get to GHKL because I might have appendix, he was more worried about the traffic jam that he was gonna get himself into. I might fucking die and all he cares is the traffic jam?! Not trying to stereotype here, but Chinese can be so successful at businesses for they are so calculative. I mean, it was only a 10-minute ride to the hospital. Never mind. He dropped me along the roadside. I swear karma will bite him in the ass someday. The next taxi that stopped was more than willing to send me there. He was an Indian. I asked him if there was going to be any jam. He told me there is NO traffic jam around that area. In your face, you chinese prick!

6PM – I was told by Dr. Khor to go to the EU. EU sent me to somewhere. Somewhere sent me to somewhere. Somewhere sent me to the outpatient treatment department.

Waited for another 20 minutes. Eventually, my name was called. As soon as I sat down, she looked at the referral letter, and said, ‘highly unlikely.’ WTF? She took less than 20 seconds to make tell me that. No fever, no vomiting. I went to take my blood test. 10 minutes later, I went back to her. This time, she was less certain. She said that I might have appendicitis. Nonetheless, she told me to come back immediately if it hurt that night.

6.30PM – I received a phone call from my uncle. He told me he reached GHKL. I was quite surprised because neither my mum nor I called him to come because my appendicitis was still tentative. This decision of his to come, saved my life. He suggested we went for dinner and then stay over at his place in case anything happens that night.

Daniel said, “No worries. Look at it this way, exciting blog post coming up!”

7PM – My uncle is the “enjoy life” type of person. He ordered big lobsters, marmite chicken, fried rice and vegetable. Bear in mind, those were all for 2. Fried rice came first. Less than half a bowl of it, I started throwing up everything, including the meds I took 5 minutes ago. L My delicious lobster.

This, was when I thought to myself,

“Shit just got real.”

Seeing how NOT worried the GH doctor was, I decided to go back to the Dr Khor to see what he has to say about the blood test results.

“Stupid GH doctors! How could they let you leave the hospital with such results?”

I smiled in relieved, thinking to myself, “Well, at least I made the right choice coming back to him for a 2nd opinion”

At this point, my gastric pain advanced to a scaled of 7/10.

8PM – Packed up my stuff from home as I was going to be admitted to the hospital. After all the admission paperwork, blood tests (again), waiting for the doctor to come, 2 hours came and gone. It has got to be the most miserable 2 hours of my life. All I wanted to do was to induce myself to vomit out anything and everything that is left in my stomach. What’s worst? The pain/discomfort only subsided for 5 minutes after vomiting. It came back like a bitch. Have you seen a worm? Yep. I was like one. Squirming left and right on the bed, not knowing when all these suffering would be put to an end. Pain scale 8/10.

IMG 20110609 00064 The Appendicitis HitThey gave me this really cool tag. It even has a barcode on it! icon biggrin The Appendicitis Hit

10PM – The doctor came, looked at the blood test results, and concluded it is most likely appendicitis.

Thank God.

I was really hoping he would say so. This meant that I could quickly operate and stop my gastric pain and whatever is wrong with me.

They needed 30 minutes to prep for the surgery. Now that the problem has been identified, they could give me some painkillers while waiting. One shot up my ass and I was in cloud 9. I kid you not, those 30 minutes with painkillers were the best 30 minutes of the whole day. I felt sleepy. I felt numb. I was in the state of trance.

They pushed my bed towards the operation room. Talked to the anesthetist and doctor.

Breath in… Breath out…. Breath..i…n…

1PM – I woke up in the midst of being transported back to my ward. It was over. Thank God it was. No more gastric pain. The half-conscious me was presented with the cut out appendix. I couldn’t see much though. The container was filled with blood. Off I went to sleep.

IMG 20110607 00059 The Appendicitis HitAll sorts of chemicals were injected into me. I had more than 6 injections in 2 days.

I stayed in the ward for 2 nights. All was well, except for that annoying other patient who smoked in the toilet. I even met a really cute nurse! *recall, recall!*

IMG 20110608 00062 The Appendicitis Hit*clears throat* Due to my inability to move about. I had this very cool remote to aid me. Teehee!

Dr. Khor actually called me up a couple of times to check on me. I was really touched by this act of kindness. I’d really like to thank Dr Khor, my uncle, parents and friends and those who were there for me.

It was all great fun. And great deal of money. Just 2k short from the price of somebody delivering a baby.

IMG 20110612 00070 The Appendicitis Hitcomments The Appendicitis HitI must admit. My friends have a great sense of humor. Hahahaha!

IMG 20110612 00074 The Appendicitis HitMy mum and aunt came over to stock up my cabinet with foooooood.

ward The Appendicitis HitOnce again, I cannot thank Dr. Khor, Dr. Sukumar, my uncle, mummy, my aunt and friends enough. My mum was there the whole time. She flew down to KL with my aunt to see me. icon biggrin The Appendicitis Hit And also thank my friends, classmates for dropping by the hospital for a visit.

Ze New Adventure?

Today, I shall announce to you…

*drumroll*

… my one month anniversary for leaving my blog aside. Teehee. Sorry, couldnt help it.

That was supposed to be my intro when I was writing the first half of this post. Its not even all that long. I just decided to finish the 2nd half the next day, which, as you can see, didn’t go according to plan.

It’s been so much fun. This 3 and a 1/2 weeks back at Kuching has been the most, fun-filled, meaningful trip back, yet. I’ve done so much. 2 days after I reached Kuching, the “Aaron’s” and I went to renew our IC. Yeah, thats a big deal. Taking off that primary 6 shit-face of mine. Yeah. That one.

Sam, Kath, Vivian, Red and I drove up to Serian for a day trip. Rancang pool first, durian-hunting later, or at least that was our plan. We had great fun take pictures at Rancang pool. Sam was so amazed by kids smoking. She was like, *kicak* Look, how awesome that is… the smoke and all…” OK so maybe I para-phrased it a little, but you get my drift. We then went for a yummy seafood lunch with Vivian’s parents. Did I mention that her parents grew up in Serian? Back to food. Damn those lobsters were aweeeeeeeesooooommmmmeeeeeeeee…. Nuff said. Vivian’s dad then pass by this small river, told us that when he was young, he used to come across natives bathing along the river during the evening. Doesn’t sound like much? Wait till you listen to how he describes them natives “fling” their breasts. L.O.L.

Came back, rested a while, went for a photo-shoot in the field nearby Vivian’s house. Great fun it was. I was so rusty with the camera. I didnt even know what to do with it. Luckily there was Sam. I tell you one thing, that is shooting portraits is not easy. Or maybe its just not my thing. Aelred was the photographers assistant, carrying the tripod and all, and the very cool guy who posed for the camera.

There was that, and… OH! How I knocked my car.

Yes, yes. I popped my cherry. “Car accident cherry”. Damn I hate myself, so much. I was getting my hair cut in Ray’s at Brighton Square. While driving back, I came to a stop in the Jln Song traffic lights, or at least I thought I stopped. I held my BB up, busy BBM-ing as I let my subconscious self release the brakes. I bumped into an Atos. First thing I said was, “Oh shit!” Not because I was going to die, but because I bumped into someone because of my stupidity. That native uncle was not very happy with that mosquito bite dent on his car. It was really small. My car just “rolled” on D gear. At first, he wanted to jot down my IC and all because he asked for RM100 which I didnt have with me. Then, he was like, “Never mind, how much do you have?” I took out about 3-4 pieces of RM10 notes from my wallet and handed over. By the time the lights turned green, we were set to go. I was so nervous, I remember saying thank you to him instead of sorry. So that was that. Luckily, my dad took the news much better than I thought he would. Still, I felt really guilty. I’m finding for a way to make up to him.

IMG 20110423 00047 Ze New Adventure?Oops

So I went to Melacca. It’s a day trip organized by the Sabah & Sarawak Students Society. Had great fun going to my first field trip since college. First thing I noticed when I step foot on Melacca soil, is that the place is MUCH cooler than KL. Even under 12PM sun, it didnt feel half as hot as it was in KL.

WTF M’sians???

ANOTHER semester has come and gone. Lots have happened. Taking life’s obstacles in strides. Wait… why am I getting all philosophical? Here’s the thing, the it’s my first time sitting in MAS’s sub-co. called FireFlyz. I rushed from school after my exams at 5pm. 1.5hours of traffic jam during peak hour later, we were informed that our flight has been re-timed from 8.25PM to 12.25PM. Like WTF M’sians? (I learned that from sxephil’s show)

As frustrated as I am, I now look at the bigger picture Why fret over these petty stuff? I now think of what I’m going to do after I reach home, despite the delay. It’s no more worth my brain cells dying over things that I have no control over.

As this semester nears the end, I’ve learned to look beyond what’s in front of me. The problem in hand is no more of my concern. It’s the impact of this said problem that I’m worried about.

If you have not noticed, a couple of friend’s and I rolled out with a charity tee as an effort to let people know about our new brand, and also to raise some funds for the Japan tsunami victims. Reception was very good. We managed to rake in 117 orders in just a matter of 7 days. Sales part was smooth sailing. The production part, however, was not so.

You see, I’m studying in KL and without a transport, I couldn’t find for suppliers around town. Hence, my Kuching partner went round town looking for suppliers. This, is our first batch of tees. It’s a non-profit-one-time thing. To cut it short, the shirts printed were not well done. Printing was off-center. Size of the design shrunk. We sent it back for reprinting. This lady in-charge agreed to reprint, but did not put our deal a priority. She, instead, managed to cough up the guts to say that she needs to do the tees for the coming general election. Problem is we paid our money, you gave us your word, and there are 117 customers of mine waiting for the tees. It wasn’t no win-win solution here. From what I heard from my friend who dealt with her, things got a little heated up. Anyway, there’s much more to the story than just this. I’ve learned to “look at the big picture” now. Just wanted to let it out. So, again, WTF M’sians???

I actually thought up a lot of things to write about last night. I couldn’t sleep till 5AM in the morning. Don’t know why every time I sit down the next day, these thoughts of mine all vanish. OK I should start blogging whenever something comes up in my mind next time. Tsk.
